Traditional Food

All food is provided at Camp Bali. This includes a continental breakfast and two Indonesian meals that have been adjusted for the western palate. Cooking demonstrations can be arranged and guests are welcome at any time to watch or assist in meal preparation. Most of the fruit, vegetables and spices are grown locally.

At Camp Bali we have a separate cook house, as is the norm in village compounds. Most food is cooked on modern gas cookers but where tradition or flavors demand, open fires or wood stoves are used.

Here you can see wasp larvae being cooked in green bamboo, which has been sealed with banana leaves. This imparts subtle flavors to the traditional delicacy enclosed.

"The proof is in the pudding" or the bamboo, in this case.
